An exceptional property in a quiet rural location between Wells, Bath and Frome. Gales Court is very handsome single storey house built in a classical Georgian style. It includes a hall, 2 fine reception rooms, conservatory, kitchen & breakfast room, utility, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Outside are a double garage and beautiful gardens of over an acre.

Nettlebridge is a small hamlet with a handful of properties and some of the most beautiful countryside in Somerset. Close by is Harridge Woods Nature Reserve. Gales Court enjoys a quiet, tucked away location but is in easy reach of all the surrounding towns and villages. It has privacy and was built for a farmer about 40 years ago.

The property is accessed from a very quiet lane (with probably no through traffic) by a tarmac drive, sheltered and shaded by willow and beech trees, with double doors to the right to The Court and a field gate to the left to a tarmac drive. This drive is flanked on the right hand side by a privet hedge below lawns up to The Court.

Gales Court

Double timber gates open to the drive and the grounds of this stunning house that is a beautiful building with Bath stone in a classical Georgian style with a parapet roof. Particularly pleasing are the niches for the statues. Internally the Georgian style continues with high coved ceilings and large windows that flood the house with sunshine.

The front door opens into a porch with a cloaks cupboard and leads through to a central hallway. There are two reception rooms including a dining room and sitting room with a fireplace with a pine mantle, marble inset and a large wood burning stove. Double doors lead into the conservatory. The kitchen/breakfast room has a good range of units, work surfaces and fitted cupboards and appliances including a large range cooker, extractor and dishwasher. Adjacent is the utility room with a range of fitted floor and wall units. A door opens into the rear porch which has a coats closet and a shower room with hand basin, wc and shower. There are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a large storage attic.

There's any amount of parking space and two large garages. The gardens are splendid with the terrace on the south side of the house having steps down to a very pretty large lily pond set in lawns with a backdrop of mature trees including oak and beech. In addition to the lawned gardens, flower and shrub beds there are wooded areas and all combine to make a serene, peaceful and very special setting for this unique house.

About the area

Oakhill is a quiet country village and nearby are several village schools, small shops, pubs and restaurants. The cities of Wells, Bath and Bristol are all very accessible and provide an extensive range of commercial, cultural and sporting activities to suit most needs. Bath and Bristol are large cities and are renowned for their events. Wells, the smallest city in England (12,00 people), throughout the year hosts festivals for Music, Literature, Art and Food, and has twinned links with Burgundy, the Rhineland and Northern Italy. There are many societies and clubs for those who would like to join a diverse social community.

Also Babington House (7.9 miles), The Hauser & Wirth Gallery in Bruton (11 miles) and The Newt in Somerset (14 miles) are all within easy reach. On the sporting side there are numerous golf clubs, the property is within the Mendip Hunt country and both shooting and fishing are available locally. There are excellent state & independent schools in the area which include several good primary schools, Wells Blue School, Strode College, Wells Cathedral School, Downside, All Hallows, Millfield and the various highly regarded schools in Bruton, Bath and Bristol.

The Village of Oakhill is a mile or so off the A37 that runs northwards from the A303 to Bristol and Bath. Approaching Oakhill from the south pass the pub on the right hand side and continue on the A367 northwards and pass the primary school on the right hand side. When the road starts to go downhill continue for a quarter of a mile or so and take the first right fork. Continue past a cottage on the left hand side. Then continue down the hill and turn right into the first drive. Gales Court is then immediately on the right hand side.
