Nettlebridge is a small hamlet with a handful of properties and some of the most beautiful countryside in Somerset. Close by is Harridge Woods Nature Reserve.
Gales Court enjoys a quiet, tucked away location but is in easy reach of all the surrounding towns and villages.
It has privacy and the two houses are also well apart and again extremely private. The main house (for clarity described as The Court) was built for a farmer about 40 years ago and The Dormer Bungalow was developed from old farm buildings.
The entire property is accessed from a very quiet lane (with probably no through traffic) by a tarmac drive, sheltered and shaded by willow and beech trees, with double doors to the right to The Court and a field gate to the left to a tarmac drive. This drive is flanked on the right hand side by a privet hedge below lawns up to The Court and on the left by a post and rail fence with a meadow on the other side.
About a hundred yards along the drive hundred yards there's a gate on the right to The Bungalow. The drive then continues, bounded to the north all the way from the entrance by the land) to a gateway to the neighbouring property which has a right of way over the drive.
Double timber gates open to the drive and the grounds of this stunning house that is a beautiful building with Bath stone in a classical Georgian style with a parapet roof. Particularly pleasing are the niches for the statues.
Internally the Georgian style continues with high coved ceilings and large windows that flood the house with sunshine. The front door opens into a porch with a cloaks cupboard and leads through to a central hallway.
There are two reception rooms including a dining room and sitting room with a fireplace with a pine mantle, marble inset and a large wood burning stove. Double doors lead into the conservatory.
The kitchen/breakfast room has a good range of units, work surfaces and fitted cupboards and appliances including a large range cooker, extractor and dishwasher. Adjacent is the utility room with a range of fitted floor and wall units. A door opens into the rear porch which has a coats closet and a shower room with hand basin, wc and shower. There are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a large storage attic.
There's any amount of parking space and two large garages. The gardens are splendid with the terrace on the south side of the house having steps down to a very pretty large lily pond set in lawns with a backdrop of mature trees including oak and beech. In addition to the lawned gardens, flower and shrub beds there are wooded areas and all combine to make a serene, peaceful and very special setting for this unique house.
A gate leads off the approach drive and to the Bungalow which stands in lawned gardens.
The accommodation is quite extensive and is very flexible lending itself easily to re-arrangement if required. It also has double glazing and gas central heating. The front door opens to a porch and the hall has a cloakroom with a basin and wc.
The hall leads to a dining room with a staircase and a door into the large 20 ft. sitting room having a triple aspect and doors to the garden. The kitchen has fitted units, work surfaces, sink unit, tiled splash backs, a cooker, hood and ch boiler.
Also on the ground floor are a study, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. On the first floor are 3 further bedrooms and a large attic store with bags of scope.
The property has plenty of parking space, a double garage (with loft), a front lawn and a paved terrace. The remainder of the gardens include further lawns, wooded areas, shrubberies and a pond.
The Land and Lake
The land totals over 5 acres acres and includes gently sloping pastureland in good heart. On the northern side is an absolutely charming small lake with a summerhouse (with jetty), all sheltered and protected by mature trees and bordered by a stream.
On the eastern side of the meadow and separated from the field by a post and wire fence is a partly wooded area or plantation with a pathway which links from the drive to the lake area.
