Wells is the smallest city in England (population about 11,000) lying in beautiful countryside between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The major towns of the area being Bristol, Bath, Taunton and Yeovil are all within commuting distance. Castle Cary is the nearest train station with fast links to London.
Wells has local markets twice a week and many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. There is a busy local shopping centre, a broad range of societies and activities and excellent state and independent schools in the area including a number of primary schools, Wells Blue School, Wells Cathedral School and Millfield.
South Horrington Village is built around the grand and imposing Grade II Listed Victorian building which was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott, the architect who designed the London Foreign Office, Albert Memorial and St. Pancras Station. Originally a hospital it was re-developed about twenty years ago. The development of this building and surrounding grounds comprises South Horrington - a popular residential area on the Bath Road side of Wells.
Knapp Hill Close is located to the north of the former hospital and the area surrounding is a peaceful environment well away from any busy roads. It is very close to the cricket ground Wells golf course and in easy reach of the centre of Wells.
