About the Area

Wookey is a pleasant village lying just west of Wells. It was probably a Saxon settlement and in the 13th century was the site for the palace of the Bishop of Wells. The village has a church, primary school, 3 pubs, various village societies and "The Hub" shop & cafe which is at the heart of this friendly community. Wells is the smallest city in England (population about 11,000), lying in beautiful countryside between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wells medieval centre has local markets twice a week, good restaurants, a thriving high street and many important ancient buildings, including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace and gardens. There are four major supermarkets on the edge of the city. Wells Leisure Centre has the usual facilities of gym and swimming pool to add to Wells Rugby Club, Tennis club, Bowling club and Golf course. Throughout the year Wells hosts festivals for Music, Literature, Art and Food, and has twinned links with Burgundy, the Rhineland and Northern Italy. Directions

From our office continue along Priory Road, over the first junction and to the roundabout. Turn right, through the first lights and left at the next lights. Continue and take the left fork towards Wedmore on the outskirts of Wells. Continue a mile or so and turn right by the Burcott Inn. Continue to a crossroads and turn left. Continue until the Ring O Bells is on the right and turn left under the archway and continue to No. 2.
