Tremendous living space, lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, many unique features and enormous character. Viewing essential to appreciate its qualities.

Outside the landscaped garden has parking and a swimming pool.

May Place has an elevated position at the end of Hamlyn Road which is a cul de sac on the eastern side of Glastonbury and just a short walk to Glastonbury High Street. The property is largely hidden from view and has lots of privacy. Electric timber gates open to the parking area.

This is a house which must be viewed to be appreciated. It is unique and appointed to an exceptional level. There’s great character and great living space with gas central heating and double glazing. It has fabulous westerly views with balconies making the absolute most of the views and sunsets throughout. This impressive house has many interesting and unique features internally including decorative ceiling, architrave and fireplaces and much attention to detail throughout.

The front door opens into the hallway that has a cloaks cupboard. Off the hall is a cloakroom with wash hand basin and wc. The sitting room has maple flooring, a decorative marble fireplace, detailed plasterwork ceiling cornice and large westerly facing sliding doors that lead out on the terrace. Two maple doors open to the drawing room. The drawing room is triple aspect with the westerly aspect enjoying the fine views. This well proportioned room has built-in full height glass fronted mahogany display cabinets with cupboards under. Mahogany stairs from the drawing room lead to the office and library. The office has a decorative ceiling and a substantial range of bespoke fitted cupboards with a desk area. The library offers good storage space.

The dining room has maple flooring, detailed ceiling plasterwork and fireplace surround. This generous room opens to the breakfast and morning room, which has a glass sliding door opening out onto a balcony and built-in cupboards with marble tops. This elegant room is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast whilst looking out over the stunning views. The kitchen is just off the dining room and is extremely well fitted with oak cupboards and Corian work surfacing, electric oven, gas hob dishwasher and two larder fridges.

Stairs from the hall lead down to the bedroom wing of May Place. The master suite has a bedroom with a westerly facing window, it has lots of fitted wardrobes and a dressing table. The bedroom opens to the dressing room, again with wardrobes and shelving. The luxurious en suite bathroom has Travantino marble tiles to the wall and floor, a decorative plaster ceiling, cupboards topped with marble with inset twin wash basins, built-in shelving, Jacuzzi bath and multi jet shower, bidet and wc. There are 2 further bedrooms and a bathroom on this wing. Both bedrooms are fitted with wardrobes and have fine westerly views through the windows. The bathroom is modern with a tiled floor and has a corner shower cubicle, bath, wash hand basin and wc.

A further hallway on the south side of the property has an undercroft storage cupboard. This hallway leads to the guest wing of May Place. The spacious main guest bedroom has fitted bedroom furniture and the second guest room also has fitted furniture. The guest bathroom definitely has the ‘wow’ factor with black marble tiles, black and white marble floor tiles with gold Art Deco style columns and ceiling light and mirror. It has a corner shower cubicle, wash hand basin and wc.

May Place is approached through double wooden gates onto a brick paved driveway, adjacent. Paved steps and pathway lead to the house. The front garden is low maintenance with paving, raised beds and vegetable garden. The paving continues around on both sides of the property and steps down to a level lawned area with further steps down to the lawned and paved swimming pool area with a summerhouse at the rear. The rear garden is fully enclosed with mature planting and fencing, the westerly facing aspect ensures plenty of sunshine both on the terraces, lawned and pool areas.

About the area

Glastonbury has been a religious centre throughout history and back into the times of legends. The Celtic monastery evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys and the town grew up alongside it. Today it’s a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area - clusters around the evocative ruins of the Abbey. Just 5 miles from Glastonbury is Wells which is the smallest city in England (population 10,000). Its centre is the market place (local markets twice a week) surrounded by many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. Immediately to the south (2 miles) of Glastonbury is the town of Street with a large shopping centre and these centres provide a huge range of facilities and amenities. There are excellent local and independent schools including Millfield, Wells Cathedral, Strode College, Downside, All Hallows and the Bruton schools. About 12 miles south east is Castle Cary station with a main rail line to London.

Head up Glastonbury High Street to the top and turn left into Wells Road. Take the 2nd turning on your right into Leg of Mutton Road and then the next left into Hamlyn Road. Continue to the end of Hamlyn Road and May Place will be right at the end of the cul-de-sac on your left.
