About the area
Castle Cary is described by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, the eminent architectural historian, as Somerset's prettiest town, set in beautiful un-spoilt countryside. The town is characterised by period buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. It remains a delightful small market town with a number of traditional shops and boutiques within the Conservation Area in which a policy of strict planning control operates to prevent inappropriate development. These shops cater for most everyday needs whilst Shaftesbury, Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Frome, Wincanton, Sherborne and Yeovil are all close by and Salisbury, Taunton, Bath and Bristol are in easy driving distance.
The newly opened “The Newt in Somerset” just outside Castle Cary is home to beautiful countryside walks set in the grounds of a Georgian country estate. Within the estate are a Hotel & Spa, Farm shop, restaurants and house & garden shop.
On the outskirts of Castle Cary is the railway station with its direct line to Paddington and the A303 road link is a few miles south. There are excellent state schools in the area - Ansford Academy boasts excellent exam grades and independent schools include the Sherborne and Bruton schools, Millfield, Wells Cathedral, Hazlegrove, Port Regis and St. Mary's Shaftesbury.
Jubilee Cottage is located in the highly sought after Mews development of Priorygate Court. With a large proportion of the properties having been built in 2000 in the grounds of the former Priory. The properties sit in a quiet location just a few steps from the high street on a private no through lane. There is secure and private access for residents to walk directly through into the town and the cul de sac is renowned for its exclusivity.
Owned by the same family since it was built, Jubilee Cottage is part of the main courtyard development in the former Priory's orchard and has attractive local Hadspen stone elevations with a pretty garden frontage and a driveway leading round to the garden and garage to the side. A path leads up to the front door which enters a welcoming entrance hall.
The hall has stairs rising to the first floor and doors leading into the sitting room and kitchen. The kitchen is a light and bright room with french doors out to the garden and a free flowing open plan layout, right through into the garden room. There are bespoke, high gloss kitchen units with granite worktops and integral appliances including an electric cooker, gas hob, extractor, microwave oven and fridge/freezer. It is an incredibly spacious room with space for a dining table and additional seating. The adjoining garden room has an idyllic outlook of the gardens and is an extremely flexible living space.
There is plumbing for a washing machine, further storage, a sink and ample room in which to sit and enjoy the view. There are french doors out to the garden here, too.
The sitting room is an elegant room of grand proportions. The high ceilings, cornices and focal ham stone fireplace give the allure of period character and like the other main living rooms there are french doors directly out to the enchanting gardens. Also adding to the character are newly installed oak floorboards.
Also on the ground floor is the cloakroom.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom is of a generous size and enjoys the benefits of both built in wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom. Within the en-suite are a bath, basin, w/c and bold, colourful wall tiles. The family bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, basin, stone effect wall tiles and w/c.
The gardens are a real pleasure. Any garden lover will appreciate the true diversity of flowers, shrubs and plants that this garden enjoys. There are deep, well established borders with a gravel path leading through and a large patio immediately outside the house, perfectly positioned to take it all in. The garden is walled giving excellent privacy and security. The southerly aspect of the garden means it is full of sunlight throughout the day.
Within the garden is a garage which could easily be converted into a home gym or office subject to obtaining the necessary consents.
Mains gas, water, drainage and electricity.
