Location

Situated close to Wells, nestled in the lee of the Mendips, Croscombe is a ancient village. Known to date back to at least 706, it developed in the 16th and 17th centuries with the boom in the wool trade. During this period many houses, cottages and inns were built, and the church was reconstructed. Today Croscombe is a popular and vibrant residential area with a very friendly and active community (of about 600) with a Church, excellent primary school and pub. Millstream Cottage sits in a slightly elevated position, on a quiet side lane, in the centre of the village.

Description

The cottage retains many original features and feels untouched by the march of time. It’s authentic character and charm are bound to appeal to those who are searching for a historic gem to call home. An entrance hall with wonderful flagstones, provides space for boots and coats. A door leads to the sitting room which has beams, an inglenook fireplace, original window seat and other delightful, authentic, features still preserved. There is a large understairs cupboard and a gas log effect stove for warmth in the winter months. The kitchen is at the back of the cottage. It has space for a table and chairs, there are fitted units and a gas cooker. A glazed door leads to the back garden and another door leads to the covered car port.

*

To the back of the kitchen is the shower room, a large understairs cupboard, and addition cloakroom. Stairs rise from the back of the kitchen to a separate stone-built room that adjoins the garden. This is a versatile space that could be used as a bedroom. It has a triple aspect and a half-glazed door leads to the garden. In the sitting room, stairs rise to the other 2 bedrooms. It is worth noting that in the second bedroom a door opens to a large area of attic storage above the kitchen.

Various planted herbs, flowers and mature trees are interwoven with steps, paths and terraces with views. There is also a summer house, shed and a greenhouse. To the side of the cottage is a covered car port and a large timber shed.
