A charming Grade II listed character cottage in a tucked away location within the heart of this popular village, close to Castle Cary and Bruton.

Orchard Cottage was formerly part of a larger house in North Cadbury and has since been split into two idyllic cottages. There are currently four bedrooms within the property and a ground floor shower room which a new owner could convert into a utility room and convert the fourth bedroom into a family bathroom. The property requires some cosmetic improvements and the installation of central heating, but few cottages offer even a fraction of the potential available here. The property still enjoys it's prominent triple gabled facade with a slate tiled roof and ashlar ham stone elevations, adorned by mullioned windows.

On the ground floor there is a light and bright sitting room with a wood burning stove, and pretty views of the garden. In addition there is a kitchen which also has a roaring wood fired stove, as well as an electric oven and side door leading to the garden. Off the kitchen there is a spacious dining room and at the foot of the stairs there is a neatly arranged study area. The bedrooms on the first floor are all double rooms, with the exception of the aforementioned fourth room which would be an ideal spot for the family bathroom. The two of the larger bedrooms enjoy fabulous garden views.

The gardens at Orchard Cottage add an immense charm to the property, fulfilled by great varieties of flowering plants set within deep borders and mown paths sweeping through. There is excellent privacy within the garden, several useful sheds, a small pond and lawned areas set back behind a low stone wall. Parking is often easy to find immediately outside the property on the quiet street where it is unrestricted.

About the area

North Cadbury is a sought-after village set in picturesque countryside, which is typical of this area of South Somerset. Together with the neighbouring village of South Cadbury it enjoys a close community spirit with a thriving village store, active village hall, lively Church and two traditional public houses. More extensive amenities are available in the nearby towns of Castle Cary, Bruton, Yeovil and Sherborne. The village has a well-regarded primary school and a senior school at Ansford in Castle Cary. Hazelgrove at Sparkford, plus King’s School and Sexey’s in Bruton all have excellent reputations. Sherborne Boys and its separate Girls’ School are renowned in the private sector. Leweston Independent School at Sherborne has a preparatory school for boys up to eight and its Girls’ School provides full education for girls between eleven and eighteen.
