Long Cottage is located alongside a small quiet country lane (with very little traffic) on the outskirts of the popular village of Meare which lies between Glastonbury and Wedmore.

Meare lies about midway between the historic town of Glastonbury and the popular village of Wedmore. There is easy access to the other towns of the area including Wells and Street whilst Bristol is well within commuting distance.
Meareway is a small and very quiet country lane which runs from Meare to the other nearby small village of Westhay. Long Cottage stands alongside the lane and has fine views over the open countryside to both sides and northwards to the Mendip Hills.

From Wedmore follow the signs to Glastonbury. After about 3 miles turn left after the Bird in the Hand Public House. Long Cottage can be found 1 mile on the right.
From Glastonbury enter the village of Meare, continue until Mearway is on the rigt hand side and follow this lane until Long Cottage is on the left hand side.
About the area
The Saxon village of Wedmore is a delightful and extremely active centre and in many ways is an archetype of an English village. There are historic buildings including the medieval church next to an old coaching inn, a general store/newsagent, post office, butchers, chemist, various other interesting shops, plus pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. There is a wide range of cultural and sporting clubs and societies. Swimming pools at both Cheddar & Wells; Sailing & Windsurfing Clubs at Cheddar Reservoir; the Badgworth Equestrian Centre: Wedmore 18 Hole Golf Course; Floodlit Astroturf Tennis Courts; Indoor and Outdoor Bowling Green;, Football and Cricket clubs.
Glastonbury's past and its present are linked with its dominant landmark and the town grew up alongside the Abbey and become a manufacturing and trading centre. Today it’s a thriving market town and a major tourist venue, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area - clusters around the evocative ruins of the Abbey.
Meare is a village and civil parish 3 miles north-west of Glastonbury and has been a settled site for even longer than Glastonbury. The parish Church of St Mary, formerly in the keeping of Glastonbury Abbey dates from 1323 and is a Grade I listed building. The village also has a primary school awarded ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED, a number of societies and clubs and a good community spirit.
Close by is the Shapwick Heath nature reserve with superb walks enjoying the abundant wildlife in the area including the fabulous Starling murmerations in the spring and autumn.
Nearby cities and towns and communications
The Cathedral City of Wells is approximately 7 miles away and also provides a good range of business, recreational and shopping facilities. Shopping centres are available at Taunton, Bath and Bristol (each approximately 25 miles away). Communications in the area are good with access to the M5 (J22 - 10 minutes) connecting to M4 (J16). A local train service from Highbridge (7 miles) links with the intercity train services at Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington taking approximately 11/2 hours. Castle Cary, a mainline station is about 20 miles whilst Bristol International Airport is 15 miles away.
There are excellent state and independent schools in the area for all ages.
