A truly unique property in a tremendous position in walking distance of the high street and enjoying absolutely fabulous views southwards over Glastonbury and the countryside beyond.
Hillside has exceptional accommodation on 3 floors and includes a hall, cloakroom, a large “living kitchen/dining room” (plus utility room & larder), sitting room, a huge games room, 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a 40 ft. indoor swimming pool building with changing room.
Outside there’s plenty of parking space plus a big garage and a landscaped garden.
NB. There is also great scope to extend the living area and to create a secondary annexe for family or letting – all subject to planning.
Rowley Road lies on the hillside to the north of Glastonbury with views across the town which is within walking distance. Hillside House has a great position facing south and was designed and built to get the maximum benefit of the stunning views.
Built on the hillside it has 3 storeys and extremely generous accommodation with plenty of large windows which flood the house with sunshine and make it light and airy. An impressive flight of steps leads to the ground floor front door which opens to the hall and a great 23 ft. x 21 ft. games room with full height windows and patio doors which access the bordering terrace. The room also has a well fitted bar. A staircase leads from the entrance hall to the first floor which has a large open plan kitchen and dining room with plenty of space, a pine panelled ceiling and full width windows on the southern side. There’s an extensive range of units with an integrated cooker and extractor. Off the kitchen is larder and a utility room, again with a pine ceiling, units, space and plumbing and a side door to the garden.
The sitting room is a quiet peaceful room with a patio door to a level terrace and lawn.
The large hall has a cloakroom (with basin and wc) and leads to the master bedroom which has an extensive range of fitted bedroom furniture and an en suite bathroom with an oval jacuzzi bath.
Also on this floor is another bedroom which again has fitted wardrobes and cupboards.
The second floor has 3 more bedrooms and a second bathroom. All the bedrooms have fitted furniture and the bathroom has both a shower and a bath.
One of the fabulous features of the property is the huge indoor pool room. It’s reached from a covered terrace walkway from the hall with patio doors and large windows on the south and east sides. Inside it has a beautiful pine panelled ceiling and paving to all sides of the pool. In addition there’s a changing room with shower and cloakroom.
There’s a large paved driveway and plenty of parking space in front of the large garage which has an electric door. The grounds are well landscaped with a very useable level lawned garden, a summerhouse and mature shrubs together with extensive paved terracing – all contributing to the property which was built for enjoyment.
Mains services and gas central heating. Council Tax Band F. Freehold with immediate vacant possession.
Hillside House has now been empty for some time and needs some works to bring it back to life!
About the area
Glastonbury has been a religious centre throughout history and back into the times of legends. The Celtic monastery evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys and the town grew up alongside it. Today it’s a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area - clusters around the evocative ruins of the Abbey.
Just 5 miles from Glastonbury is Wells which is the smallest city in England (population 10,000). Its centre is the marketplace (local markets twice a week) surrounded by many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace.
Immediately to the south (2 miles) of Glastonbury is the town of Street with a large shopping centre and these centres provide a huge range of facilities and amenities.
There are excellent local and independent schools including Millfield, Wells Cathedral, Strode College, Downside, All Hallows and the Bruton schools.
About 12 miles south east is Castle Cary station with a main rail line to London.
From the top of Glastonbury High Street turn left and continue for 250 yards and turn right onto Leg Of Mutton Road. Continue for about 250 yards and turn right into Rowley Road. Hillside House is on the left after about a hundred yards.
