Historic and architectural note
The original buildings were designed by the eminent Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. He was a key member of the British Gothic Revival and designed many well known public structures such as the Home Office, Albert Memorial, St Pancreas Station and Glasgow University. Scott’s Church of St Nicholas in Hamburg was at one stage the tallest building in the world. Scott also directed much Gothic restoration work, including renovations to Ely Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.
The front door opens into a hallway serving numbers 25 and 26 (being on the floor above). On entering the door to number 25 is straight ahead and opens into a hall which has a large, deep cloaks cupboard with plenty of room for coats, boots etc.
The open-plan sitting and dining room is a wonderful living space flooded with light from the double aspect windows and in addition there is a french door opening out onto the south facing lawn.
The kitchen is approached by an open archway from the dining room area and is well arranged. It has fitted floor and wall units, work surfaces, tiled splashbacks, a two bowl sink, integrated washing machine, oven and four ring gas hob with extractor. The wall mounted boiler is also in the kitchen.
